Amid a gathering of talented photographers, Anstasia Ivanova’s creations emerged as a highlight of the recent “Black Staircase” exhibition. The event, hosted by the esteemed Stroganov Moscow State Academy of Art and Industry, provided a unique platform for artists to unravel their stories through captivating visuals.
Ivanova’s photographs resonated deeply with visitors, offering a poignant narrative that revolved around the elegance of decay within aging structures. Her lens ventured beyond the ordinary, prompting viewers to reflect upon the profound relationship between vegetarians and the world they inhabit, as well as the sustenance that nourishes them.
Nestled within the venerable walls of the Stroganov Academy, an institution steeped in history since its inception in 1825, the event seamlessly merged tradition with contemporary artistic expression. Count Sergei Grigorievich Stroganov’s legacy as both a patron of the arts and the founder of the academy infused the venue with a sense of purpose that resonated deeply with the showcased works.
Central to the academy’s ethos is an unwavering commitment to nurturing talent and creativity, regardless of social backgrounds. With over 17 departments and a student body of over 1500, the academy continues to uphold its tradition of artistic excellence.
The academy itself stands as a testament to artistic innovation, with staircases adorned by works spanning generations. A hidden gem lies between its buildingsāthe Tunnel Contemporary Art Gallery, nestled within a former bomb shelter, serves as a testament to the evolution of creativity.
Adjacent to the Tunnel, the “Draft Stairs” exhibition further expanded the artistic horizon. The raw, textured walls of the staircase became a canvas for photographers, artists of various disciplines, and restoration enthusiasts. The resulting display was nothing short of a triumph, treating visitors to a visual feast of diverse art forms.
